CHRISTOPHER BERGE

Christopher Berge has been a prominent figure in the Madison, WI dining scene since 1989. His career spans over three decades, during which he co-founded and co-owned several beloved establishments including The Blue Marlin, Restaurant Magnus, Barriques, The Weary Traveler Freehouse, Nattspil, and Cortadito Express. Known for his innovative and eclectic approach, Christopher has left a lasting impact on the community.

Born and raised in Mount Horeb, Christopher's journey in the restaurant industry began as a busboy at the Fess Hotel (now the Great Dane) and evolved into a career marked by creativity and resilience. A proud UW Madison graduate, he blends his love for food, community, and sustainability in all his ventures.

An avid cyclist, Christopher has undertaken rides from Madison to Costa Rica and across South America. His passion for cycling makes Blue Mounds an area he loves, with its beautiful bike trails and scenic routes. The Blue Mound Opera House's location, near the Military Ridge State Trail, aligns perfectly with his interests.

Christopher's latest venture, the Blue Mound Opera House, combines a vintage-inspired coffee house, a versatile event space, and a cozy vacation rental. This project is deeply personal, as his great-aunt lived in the building in the 1940s, family members graduated here, and his great-uncle performed on its stage. Growing up just five miles down the road, he has strong family ties to the area.

Whether enjoying coffee at Obert Alvin Coffee House, celebrating in the event space, or staying in the vacation rental, the Blue Mound Opera House reflects Christopher Berge's legacy of excellence, community, and innovation. His hospitality is about more than great food; it's about creating memorable experiences.

MIKE SLATTERY

Mike Slattery, co-owner of the Blue Mound Opera House building, played a crucial role in making the renovation a reality.

A master metal worker, Mike recreated the historic "Opera House" letters that were original to the building. Lifelong ski buddies since junior high, Mike and Christopher have shared many adventures together. Mike’s expertise and dedication were instrumental in tackling the most challenging parts of the renovation, along with the help of some local friends. His craftsmanship and commitment have been vital to restoring the building to its former glory.
